The Mace Foundation is pleased to announce that Become will be our charity partner for 2025-2029.

At Become they are on a mission to help children in care and care-experienced young people to believe in themselves and to heal, grow and unleash their potential.

Why Become?

Every young person needs stability, support, and love. But far too many of the 107,000 children in care in the UK face significant challenges. Did you know that 39% of care-experienced young people aged 19-21 are not in employment, education, or training (NEET)? Or that 1 in 3 become homeless within two years of leaving care?

These young people often lack the family support that many of us take for granted. They face a tough transition to independence, often too quickly and without the right support. Imagine being made to leave care on your 18th birthday – that’s a harsh reality for many.

But it doesn’t have to be this way. With early intervention and the right support, we can significantly reduce the number of young people facing homelessness and NEET status. Become’s campaign to #EndTheCareCliff aims to ensure no young person leaves care before they’re ready and that they receive the support they need to thrive.

How we’ll make a difference

We’re backing Become’s national programme, Propel into Work, to help young people achieve their career goals. This service helps support care-experienced young people up to age 27 with information, advice and guidance to help them make confident choices about their career path, as well as providing 1:1 support with things like exploring different careers, job searching, creating or tailoring CV and cover letters, applying for jobs and apprenticeships and preparing for interviews.

Our goal is to raise £1 million through donations, fundraising, and industry partnerships. This will fund Propel into Work and support Become’s core work and campaigns, including #EndTheCareCliff. You can donate to the campaign here.

Headline objectives for the partnership:

  • Be a Leader: Mace will become a top employer and advocate for the care-experienced community, a key partner for Become, and a founding partner of their Propel into Work programme.
  • Raise £1,000,000: This will directly support care-experienced young people.
  • Empower 110,000 young people: Drive ambitious change and support.
  • Engage Mace colleagues: Get involved through awareness, fundraising, and volunteering
  • Train Leaders: Equip Mace Line Managers and key stakeholders to support care-experienced colleagues.
